Thoughts on Careers for the Next Generation
It took me awhile to realize how much I loved writing. Truth be told, the energetic shifts for the past few years threw my career off track and so many blockages presented themselves. The heaking journey threw me for a monumental loop and it has led me toward owning and appreciating how grateful I’ve been for my career. I’ve been through burnout so many times that I took it for granted. But now I realize how important it has been for my development as a woman. It is with this sense of leadership that I hope to pass my wisdom to the next generation.
Too often as young women we are told to prioritize our personal life over our career or vice versa. I’ve learned that neither piece of advice works very well. We need balance and I’ve lived most of my career without any kind of balance. I think most women have and then we often wake up later in life and realize the mistakes we have made.
Running or owning a business, going to graduate school or being ambitious is hard work for all women. Yet, I must admit that I’ve taken it for granted as a privileged white woman. It took years of travel for me to realize that other women and girls all over the world do not have have the same privilege of education or have the right to feel safe in their own communities.
